Title: Master Instructions for Shampoo
Categories: Shampoo *
Yield: 1 Batch

TEXT ONLY

1. Follow instructions for making a basic soap recipe, bringing temperatures of both the lye solution and of the fats and/or oils to 95øF.

2. When the shampoo has thickened and shows trailings, pour into a primary mold and wrap it in insulating materials as if you were making a batch of basic soap. Allow the shampoo to set up until it is hard enough to be grated.

3. After the shampoo has set up, remove it from the primary mold. To make hardened, milled shampoo bars, continue to step 4. To make a liquid shampoo, skip step 4 and continue to steps 5 and 6.

4. To make shampoo bars, mill the block of basic soap just as you would when making any hand-milled soap recipe. When the remelted soap shows trailings, add 3 to 6 drops of the appropriate oil (chamomile, rosemary, or cinnamon-leaf) and several drops of pine fragrance just before pouring the soap into molds. Note that you may use individual molds to make fancy shampoo bars or you may pour your milled soap into a primary mold, allow it to set up, and slice it into hefty rectangular or square bars.

5. To make a smooth, squeezable shampoo, mix together the following ingredients in a saucepan: 5 oz of the grated block of basic soap, 30 oz of water, and 1/2 ts of powdered pectin. Omitting the pectin will cause the shampoo to seperate in the bottle, leaving a big chunk of floating soap. Heat the mixture until it is smooth and liquid. Then add 3 to 6 drops of chamomole, rosemary, or cinnamon leaf oil, and several drops of pine fragrance. To much of any of these oils can irritate the skin, so do measure carefully. Shake the shampoo bottle thoroughly before each use.

6. Fill your empty plastic shampoo bottle with the soft shampoo and store the remaining shampoo in a large, tightly sealed vinegar or juice bottle. Refill the smaller plastic bottle from the large bottle as necessary.
